UMN Mobile Health Initiative Seeking Volunteer Optometrists in 2024 – MHI Vision Screening
The University of Minnesota Mobile Health Initiative delivers services across MN to reduce health disparities. Our mobile vision screening program is looking to expand. Essential to this is the recruitment of volunteer optometrists and eyecare providers.
What/When/Where:
- Timing: Weekday evenings or weekend mornings
- Location: Urban and rural locations across MN
- Workflow: 15-20 patients seen per event
- Support: Med students, volunteers, and interpreters
- Follow-up: Will vary depending on location.
- Care coordination available for referrals.
- PHI: All patient info is stored electronically (REDCap)
- Equipment: Provided – to screen for refractive error and perform dilated eye exams
- Eyeglasses: Prescriptions filled through “Changing Lives Through Lenses” program
